Bandwidth problem? investigate your log files

On some of my APEX sites I seem to have a bandwidth problem. Not that the sites become slow, they just eat so much bandwidth without reason.
We set a limit on the bandwidth a site can take a month, just so we are in control about the hosting/bandwidth fees we need to pay. If for some reason we see the site is eating a lot of bandwidth (which we didn’t expect) we enable full logging for that site.
Next we investigate the logs. You can read the raw data, but you can compare that with reading a tracefile. You can understand

Evangelize APEX in Europe

More and more Oracle User Groups include APEX tracks now.
This year I won’t go to IOUG Collaborate, instead I’ll present at some other conferences in Europe.
My schedule for the next 3 months

March 23: OBUG Connect 2010 in the Netherlands
March 30: OGh APEX dag in the Netherlands
April 23-25: Bulgarian Oracle User Group
May 18-19: Swedish Oracle User Group

I never went to Bulgary or Sweden, so I look forward being there for the first time.
I’ll also talk on some customer events and do the APEX trainings in Brussels, Belgium.
So there is a chance we meet eachother in the next weeks

What is Embedded BI?

This morning I went out of the house at exactly 6:59, ran down the hill and quickly across the road to arrive at the bus stop just about the same time as the bus.   I jumped on catching my breath, sat down and switched on my iPhone (this is a great thing about taking the bus to work, I get 12 minutes sitting reading, checking email or whatever rather than 12 minutes driving the car).  As I glanced at facebook I saw a status from Debra Lilley that was interesting enough get me thinking, even at 7am in the morning.

Blog on hiatus

This blog is going on hiatus for an undetermined period.
My wife of 22 years has just announced that she’s leaving me.  It’s going to be very hard for me to focus on work for a while, so rather than do you the disservice of incoherent articles and non-linear responses to your comments and questions, I’m putting things on hold for a while.
If you have any urgent questions about the E-Business Suite, please log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink).
[Update: I am moved and touched by your emails and comments.  While I don’t have the bandwidth

Build Custom WebADI Integrators with EBS 12.1.2 Desktop Integration Framework

Oracle Web Application Desktop Integrator (Web ADI) is Oracle
E-Business Suite’s solution for integrating E-Business Suite
applications with desktop applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word
and Projects.  “Integrators” encapsulate the metadata and other
information needed to integrate a particular Oracle E-Business Suite
task with a desktop application.
I’m pleased to announce the availability of Oracle E-Business Suite Desktop Integration Framework (DIF), a design time framework that you can use to create custom integrators for Oracle Web ADI in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.2.

Several Oracle E-Business Suite applications provide seeded integrators out-of-the-box. You can now use the Desktop Integration Framework to define custom integrators for tasks of

Logistics: Green Shoots or Brown Weeds?

Within the last few weeks, I have met with several logistics professionals, both Oracle as well as non-Oracle WMS customers. The discussion invariably turns out to be on topics that are on everybody’s minds. Where is the economy heading and how companies are responding?

The last few years have been particularly stressful for logistics overall. In early 2008, it was the increase in oil prices and spike in transportation costs. Later in 2008 and early 2009, it was the declining consumer demand for end products.

What is the outlook for 2010? What are companies doing and looking forward to, regardless of

APEX at OBUG Connect 2010

In November last year I blogged about a new initiative to launch an APEX SIG in the Benelux. The first results of that you’ll see at the biggest Oracle User Group event in the Benelux, called OBUG Benelux Connect. This year it’s held in Arnhem, the Netherlands on Tuesday March 23. Every year it changes location between Belgium and the Netherlands.
Where last year there were zero APEX sessions, this year Oracle Application Express became a focus area! There are three APEX sessions planned.

Oracle Leads Enterprise Software User Experience Session at HCI International 2009

By Anna Wichansky, Senior Director, Advanced UI User Experience, Oracle

Sitting in my office on a cold, gray day in December, my mind wanders back to a sunny rose garden in full bloom, and the wonderful week I spent in San Diego last summer at the 13th International Conference on Human Computer Interaction. This was an opportunity to network with user experience (UX) professionals in my main area of professional interest, namely enterprise software usability, and find out the latest and greatest from Oracle colleagues as well as those of other companies. This conference was one of 10 affiliated conventions for

Premier Support for Oracle Application Server 10g ends December 2010

All E-Business Suite systems administrators should review the Oracle Lifetime Support brochures on the Oracle Lifetime Support website regularly.  In particular, EBS sysadmins should monitor changes to the following documents:

As you can see from the second document, Premier Support for Oracle Application Server 10g versions 10gR2 10.1.2 and 10gR3 versions 10.1.3 ends in December 2010.  It’s important to understand how this will affect support for your E-Business Suite environments.
